FCC Provides Students $78 Million in Emergency Funds

Off-campus resources receive extra boost

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) provided almost $78 million to American students through the Emergency Connectivity fund last week. The program was created by the American Rescue Plan to support school districts and libraries to facilitate off-campus learning. In total, $7.17 billion was allocated to the Emergency Connectivity fund, and the program has entered its final billion in funding. The program will support 175,000 students, 190 schools, and 30 libraries through this round of funding.

“As the school year progresses, we need to make sure that kids can connect with teachers and homework assignments when classes finish for the day,” FCC Chairwoman Jessica Rosenworcel said. “This program will help our students by funding hot spots, tablets, and broadband services, building on our ongoing work to close the Homework Gap.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Chair Rosenworcel to seek the Lord’s wisdom as she heads the FCC.
  • For members of the commission as they provide funding under the American Rescue Plan.
  • For American students as many continue to struggle in the aftermath of the pandemic.
